Hiatus
So I went on hiatus again. I had the weekend in Calgary and came back to find that I still had a smidge of the virus I thought I had left behind.
I dealt with that and now it’s gone FOR GOOD. Yay, go me!
But now, because of this virus I have lost everything that once was on this PC. John and I had an external hard drive with ALL our pictures, music, videos, etc. The most important pics and files were still on my pc but because of the virus I cleaned everything. I went back the next morning to copy the stuff from my backup and you can probably guess what happened.
Or more so, didn’t happen.
It wouldn’t connect to any computer. We took it to a computer place and everyone thought (tech and us) that it was just the casing. However, he dismantled the casing and plugged the drive in to the PC and it was the drive. The reader thing was stuck on. How do you like that for proper terminology….”reader thing”. So we lost it all. I almost broke down and cried in the computer shop.
But I held it together. Then I mentioned that this was our backup and everything used to be on my laptop. Well, he said he’d have a better chance taking my laptop drive since it was still working was the cheaper and easier option. So I drove home and brought him back this craptop. He kept it all overnight and went on to recover things.
We got back *some* of the pics that are no where else but on my pc. But funny thing is, is that all the pics from Police Point and Cypress Hills that were recovered were of John. Or John and I. Ones of just me were no longer. We at least got the majority back. The major important files that I needed were not recovered though. I’m not sure what we are going to do about that but there really isn’t anything I can do.
The only lucky thing in all of this is that I had all my pictures on Mom’s laptop while I was in NB/NS. And guess what, they are still there. So I just lost all my travelling to the Hat and the first month here. Nothing too major. It just sucks.
It’s just like John said, we can “re-do” those memories of the first month. It’ll give us the chance to make them better. A do-over if you will. But the only thing is that I have gained about 5 lbs since I got here so I won’t be as skinny as those lost pictures but whatever. I can manage with that. hehe
I will have to restart downloading all my favourite tunes. My music collection from 1999 and on is no longer. All those gigabites are gone. Easy enough to get back. I’ll make my collection better than ever. My home videos are another thing I will miss but there isn’t anything I can do about that either.
But seriously, it was worse than it sounds looking back. That day had so much more going on. Let’s just say NS got a great idea to start a new student loan program and now 1 of the 2 loans that were with the RBC is now in this new program causing me to have another place and another loan. Fawk, can they spread out my accts and money any further?!!?!? GOD.
Also, when he plugged in my laptop hard drive I hear him say “uh-oh, that’s not good”. Oh lovely, I thought. My drive was ticking and I guess this is a BAD thing. It means it’s on its way out. Which I figured but to have it confirmed by a computer nerd is another thing. So now I’m just sitting back waiting for this thing to die. Hopefully it makes it until tax time like we had planned. If not, I don’t know what I’ll do.
I did get great news before we left for Calgary last Friday. Maybe this is why my external crashed….karma for something or other I must have done somewhere along the line…I finally got my answer from ACS about my certification. Let’s just say you are reading the words of some one who is at the top level in Alberta’s child care system!
It excited/excites me very much. I basically had myself convinced that I was going to be level 2 and I was going to have to fight. I resigned myself to the fact that there was no way I was going to be top level since the lady we were talking to (who by the way was very rude) told me I’d be lucky to be a level 2 because my degrees are always geared for youth…not children. Uh, lady I don’t think so. Whatever. I’ll deal with you later. But luckily, I didn’t have to deal with her.
I don’t officially have the certificate in my hands yet. But I got the confirmation that it will be arriving. The manager or whoever it is that signs them is out on vacation or something like that. Oh well, I don’t care. I know it’s coming and now I can feel better about my field of work. I will not be working for peanuts ladies and gentlemen. It’ll be a nice change. Now just to go and see about a job. I was told I shouldn’t have a problem finding work because people are always looking for trained, esp. my level, childcare workers. I guess we are hard to come by or something. They are slowly changing that though. But hopefully by the end of next week I’ll be in talking to someone about it all and have an idea what I may be doing.
I will post pics sometime of the Calgary Zoo last weekend. It was awesome! I just have been so busy with this virus and loss of info that I have neglected my blog and almost everything else actually. Hopefully life will get back to normal shortly.
So there you have it folks. There was the majority of my spare time this week. It doesn’t sound like much but it has been hectic.
Have a great weekend if I’m not back before it’s over.
